The pack gathered into a small group at the center of the clearing while the enemy closed in on us, armed with bows and a few spears.

"Close them in!" Called one of the elves, while he and his compatriots continued to move forward. I gazed around, realizing we were trapped.

"What's the meaning of all this!?" I shouted, alerted by their hostility. The elves ceased their movement at my words and seemed to gaze but I couldn't quite depict their emotion.

From my left, I noticed Cade also had a confused look, but I didn't pay much attention to it and focused more on the situation at hand. We were startled when the sound of large hooves trampling the ground approached and, bursting from the bushes, an enormous white deer with golden antlers trotted towards us.
