At last, my makeshift bed was finished. It wasn't much but at least I wouldn't catch a cold sleeping on the ground. I attended back to the fire and made sure we had enough supplies to keep it going overnight.
Scratch that, I had to make sure I had enough supplies; I hadn't noticed Jace had left for Selene knows how long, but I was understandably quite irritated. That guy really doesn't know how to work as a team, doesn't he? And that's if he's worked a minute in his life at all. I was a little surprised when my Wolf whimpered, pulling me out of my initial thoughts. I focused my attention to her, wondering why she was trying to reach me. Come to think of it, it has been a while since we last took time together...
I gave a small smile and sat down, forgetting my frustration as I leaned onto the wall of the cave. I absentmindedly watched the flames dance before me and, like many times before, I took a breath, closed my eyes and I re
"That's it son. Keep yo'hands where I can see'em." I froze, then slowly raised my hands, well aware I had a gun pressed against the back of my head. Shit. Guess this place wasn't abandoned after all, or some redneck had the same idea as me; only he has more firepower to go with it. I kept my cool, but I could tell the man behind me seemed just as confident in his gun as I am in my powers. Only right now, except the one in real danger here.I gently turned my head, trying to gaze over my shoulder, but he quickly screamed at me to keep my head straight, poking the gun's barrel at my neck. I snarled. "Listen old man, I'm not looking for any trouble!" I heard him scoff, his voice cracked with age. "Then you should've kept away from m'dam house, ya filthy pickpocket!" I felt his gun shake with his words, and I felt my heart raced through my chest. Great... sounds like one of those crazy farmer folks everyone stays away from. And this one seemed especially dangerous
I froze in place when the old man spoke of the former Alpha as he chuckled with a wide grin. Jace's fists closed tightly to the point his knuckles started to turn white and he leaned closer to the man's face. "You knew my father...?" I could tell he was on the break of snapping just by the tone of his voice. I can't blame him though; I'd surely feel the same if I were in his shoes. Another laugh came out of the man's throat as he seemed to enjoy his little games, but his enjoyment was cut short when Jace slammed his fist into the captive's face. Blood splattered the ground and I held my hands to my face, gasping. The man kept his head low and spat out crimson liquid, before he spoke. "Not bad... for a werewolf." Wait, he knows about our kind!? "HOW DO YOU KNOW MY FATHER!?" Jace screamed, preparing to pull another punch as he held the man by the collar of his shirt. But the old man didn't budge, and gave another large grin. "I was there w
I kept my eyes square onto the door, ignoring the gruesome sight to my right. Honestly, I had trouble processing what I heard mere seconds ago... Wolfbane... the deadliest known plant to our kind and now, it seemed a group of humans had their hands on a large quantity of it. With that stack alone, they could take out an entire pack . One cut from a Wolfbaned blade or bullet causes blood poisoning from which the victim can die in a matter of hours. Question is, how the hell did this guy get his hands on such a large quantity? Has he been growing it? And why? Feeling sick to the stomach, I pushed the closet doors open, struggling to collect my thoughts. We are in such deep shit... I heard the girl spill her guts behind me, unable to contain her meal after seeing a man get his head blown off but I was able to brush off the smell easily. Focusing on the task at hand, I kneeled by the small opening the goons had left behind, and checked inside. As expected, it was
Tears kept running down mycheeksand myshoulderswere shaken by uncontrolled sobs. I sat there, helpless as I held my mother's cold hand, unable to accept she was gone. Thesickness. She's had it for the last month now but... we were so hopeful. She showed somuchimprovement last week. Why...? Why did Selene have to take her away fromus? I wassooverwhelmed by my thoughts and emotions,Ihadn't noticed my father walked up behind me until he placedhishands over my shoulders. "You have to let her go,son. She's gone. - I don't wanttolet go...Iwant Mom— - You havetobe strong , Jace!
Jace gazed at me as if I was the last person he expected to see, which honestly, I didn't blame him for. But what's done is done, and right now, we had other problems to take care of. I was able to free Jace, but I was quick to dodge as Curtis charged at me with a metal rod and tried to swing it at my head. I snarled, but he swung again, nearly hitting my flank. Ruby was doing her best, keeping us sharp and light on our feet, but even she had her limits and we wouldn't be able to keep this pace very long. JACE! I NEED HELP!I called over the link, but he seemed to be in too much pain, as I noticed he was struggling to stand and couldn't respond. Desperate, I kept dodging Curtis' attacks until he accidentally lodged his weapon into a nearby tree. I took the opportunity and quickly ran back to Jace and transformed, forcing myself to ignore my embarrassing lack of clothes as I helped him onto his feet. Just by the smell of his wound, I could
