It's my brother Adrien, standing in front of us with his mouth wide open. "Have you lost your mind?" he snaps. "Do you have any idea what kind of trouble you can get into? I knew something like this would happen when you two met. You know how much our family is against humans and yet you decide to go ahead and kiss him? Have you ever thought about the consequences of your actions?"

Adrien's words sting, but I stand my ground. I look right at Jacob and grasp his hand firmly in mine.

"This might be hard for you to understand, but I do care about what happens to me," I tell Adrien, squeezing Jacob's hand tightly as if silently asking for reassurance. "I've been aware of the risks this might bring us ever since I decided to get close to Jacob. But it's worth it for me because he makes me happy."

Jacob tightens his grip around my hand and smiles down at me, then he looks at Adrien. "I like her a lot too and I want to be with her," he says determindedly.
