Amelia's pov

With all the bitterness in my heart, I slammed my fist against the cage, the echo bouncing off the stone walls of the abandoned mine shaft. My knuckles throbbed from it, a dull ache that mirrored the burning rage in my chest. The air was thick with the smell of damp earth and decay, a stench that mirrored the putrid emotions swirling within her.

I couldn't believe what I just heard as I wondered why I was getting to hear that just now since it happened.

This wasn't the life I envisioned for myself. I wasn't ready to have to face the world all on my own and being forced to watch my mother wither away in a freaking red den. I felt my vibrant spirit now being reduced to a hollow echo.

It was all because of her. I thought as I glared at the girl in the cage. Leila! She was my stepsister. Every was because of her.

I wondered what was so special about her that my mother was being traded for.

I remembered hearing the news. It felt as though life shattered. My plans!
