Chapter 6- Business before pleasure

I see you’ve gotten the tropy that you have been looking for”. A middle aged woman who looked like she had seen the worst things that life had to offer, sat on a couch in Adrik’s sitting room, her legs crossed.

She gave a lopsided grin while looking at Adrik who was fixing them some drinks at his private bar.

Adrik turned with two glasses of wine and walked slowly towards her, a victorious glint shining through her eyes. He handed one glass to her and took a sip from his.

“For a supposed trophy that has been causing havoc in my kingdom, I expected much. But she was just average”

“Well, she hasn’t been treated well by your aides, not that we want to spoil her but you should know that she is carrying the child that you have always wanted. Nothing should happen to it until it is born”

Adrik nodded. “I know that. That is why I still have the patience to tolerate whatever is spilling from her mouth. Such hassles".

The woman smiled and fixed Adrik a serious gaze. “What are you going to do with her in the meantime?”

“Katherine, I might be forced to think that you’re actually starting to care about this woman. All the questions that you have been asking are geared towards her welfare. Should I be concerned?” Adrik asked

A funny expression formed on Katherine’s face. She scoffed and shook her head. “You of all people should know that I do not care about anybody. And besides” she stood from the chair and took two steps closer to Adrik. “What kind of witch will I be if I start caring about a sacrifice? I aim to please”

Adrik took her in his arms and their lips met, more like a business action than an emotional connection. Katherine had been the Pack Oracle ever since he brought her home from one of his conquests. He had gone on a killing spree one time when he decided that he needed to clear his head. He had already wiped out almost the entire pack when he saw Katherine, all wide eyed and surprised. One thing had attracted him to her- no tear was shed from her. That was the first time in his entire life that he had met someone so unemotional. It turns out that the pack hadn’t treated her so well either because to them, a witch isn’t something that should be in the pack. So she had cut off all emotions from them hence, their deaths did nothing to her.

Adrik had been impressed and she even offered him a deal. Spare her life and she becomes the eyes of his pack. She would prepare him for whenever he will go to battle with any pack, and will also help him in actualizing his aim, whatever it may be.

She had been the one to talk about the power of mind control and having an army of wolves which got Adrik absolutely interested. His obsession with this mind control power and army of wolves loyal to him only drove him to finding out how it can be actualized. That had led to them tracking down and capturing Amara.

In fact, the moon goddess might have made it easier for them since they captured her as she was trying to escape from Lucian. Now all they need to do is patiently wait for the baby to be born. In order for that to happen, the she-wolf needs to be alive till then; so Katherine’s worry can be justifiable.

They broke the kiss and Adrik caressed her cheeks. What they had might not be emotional, but it is truly beneficial. People who let their emotions rule them arte weak. With what they had, he can kill her off in seconds without thinking twice if need be or if she is no longer beneficial to him.

“I like how toxic we are. Two broken people from two different worlds. We can make a power couple”

“I don’t think I’d want to become a couple with you. Who knows, I might even meet the same fate with the mates that the moon goddess provided you with. Or do I need to remind you what you did with those two beautiful wolves?” Katherine taunted

“It was something that only a powerful alpha like me could have done. I don’t need any stupid mate. The idea of mate is just the moon goddess’ way of making a wolf weak. I already went through all the pain when I killed them. And that pain has made me stronger. That is why I can comfortably do whatever I want to do without looking back or having a conscience shout in the back of my head”

Katherine took the glass of wine from Adrik and set it down on the mahogany table beside her. She slowly zipped down her blouse and took it off, leaving her in her bra and then proceeded to unbutton Adrik’s shirt. “So you’re going to kill me if I ever change my mind and decide to thwart your plans?”

He fixed her with a steady gaze and his hands went around her throat. He pushed her face up towards him while his free hand pushed her back into him. “Make no mistake, darling. I will not hesitate to use a knife on this pretty little neck of yours if the need arises”

“Then maybe I should work harder on not getting killed, right?” Katherine said and her hands went to his buckle. She swiftly unbuckled his belt, slid his zipper down and allowed his trouser to fall at a heap at his feet.

“Hmm. Depends on what you do right. If you’re good, I might consider sparing you. but you have to be some good amount of good”’ Adrik said and firmly pushed her down to her knees.

She was about to take him in her mouth when Chad burst into the room.

“Not now, Chad. I have some unfinished business that needs immediate attention” Adrik snapped.

“I’m sorry Adrik but something happened”

“Then it’d better be good enough to make me leave what i'm doing”

“Amara just collapsed. One of the guards came in to give her dinner and found her on the floor”

Annie

I 'm thinking of shipping Adrik with Katherine for a while. Would you want to see how that goes?
