As I walked out of the door and left on the way I bumped into Mrs. Bryant. The middle aged woman looked at me and immediately recognized me.

“Oh, hi young man. How are you doing today?”

She asked and inspected my face and grabbed my chin to turn it from side to side.

“No major wounds or cuts, should I hope that you won the trial?”

I felt nice and a smile automatically blossomed on my face, “Yes mam, I did”

She patted my back, “that is good, I hope the council head is not too angry with you and your mistake has been forgiven.”

Calling Miranda’s murder a ‘mistake’ was being generous but I guess the news of my victory in the trial by combat washed away all the blames and suspicion.

I knew that Lucas Klout had not forgiven me but that was not what I was going to tell the woman. She looked at me lovingly and patted my head too and caressed my face.

After long, it felt as if an elder had touched me with love and care, not with contempt or hatred.

Was that how it felt to have a mother
