Chloe POV“You’re amazing,” Mick said, kissing my hand again, then resting it on his knee.I didn’t expect his father to burst out laughing like that. I thought his parents might be pissed because of my vulgar profession. His mom didn’t seem to like Mick doing it and I didn’t like the degrading way she reacted. Fits of laughter was not my intention when I said what I said, but that’s what I got.Miles was covering his mouth with his hand, his eyes gleaming with amusement. He didn’t seem bothered either. I thought that was what made him angry yesterday, hearing that his fated mate was a porn star with his twin brother. He didn’t look angry now. He almost looked proud.Damn it. Every time I look at him, I start thinking about those dreams again. He really isn’t like most Alphas I’ve seen. He’s too kind. Too gentle. At least the sides to him that I have seen so far.And that hug yesterday…. I still remember the feeling of being in his arms even though it didn’t last very long. The spark
The pack house as we walked through was full of life. There was a direct route from Mick’s bedroom to the kitchen so I had missed it before, but now that we were walking through the main parts, I was fascinated by the differences between Setting Sun Pack and Fire Moon. Here, warriors and omegas were walking around freely, talking amongst themselves and everyone looked relaxed and happy. The packhouse was well-kept and lovely, with a homey feel. It didn’t feel like the stiff cold packhouse of Fire Moon. The flowers resting in mismatched vases around the rooms were wildflowers, all fresh picked. One even had a bee on the petals of a sunflower.I smiled at the wondrous sight of children running through the foyer, giggling while chasing one another. None of the people around seemed bothered by their presence. Being an orphan of Fire Moon Pack, I knew all too well how coldly children were treated there, especially if they didn’t have parents to protect them from the pack’s harshness. Schoo
Chloe POVThe Beta smacked Billy on the back of his head. “Don’t say it like that, you asshole. The bounty says alive and unharmed.”“Ow! So?! It’s on a hit list, isn’t it?”“Mr. Smith did?” I asked in disbelief. The man gave me the creeps last time we spoke, but this was insane. I didn’t think he would do something extreme like putting a bounty on me, even though he did make that comment about kidnapping me.“You know who he is talking about?” Mick asked, concern laced in his voice.I nodded. “He was a client of Darren’s.” I scoffed, thinking about his offer the last time I spoke to him. “An arrogant asshole but the richest one. Stupid rich. He basically tried to buy me the last time I saw him. Wanted me as his own personal sex slave or some shit like that.”Both Mick and Miles let out a deep growl at that.“That was right before you came over,” I told Mick. “Darren told him I wouldn’t be doing any more streams for him.”“Who’s Darren?” Billy asked.“Our friend,” I answered and Mick
“Alright, Luna. It’s all fixed,” an omega man told me as he and his helper wiped up the dust from installing the new door. “Someone will come by tomorrow to fix the paint and stain it, but it will do for now.”“Thanks,” I smiled tightly, not correcting the man again for calling me Luna. It would just fall on deaf ears again.“You take care now, Luna,” he said, righting his baseball cap and walking away with his tool box as the other man carried away all the leftover trash.Someone else had already cleaned up the old door and debris from Nonna this morning before I got back to the bedroom. After learning about Mr. Smith, Miles, his Beta and Gamma started taking action to tighten the security of the pack. I felt like I was just in the way but Mick wanted to stay behind and help. He was bent over Billy, pointing out things I didn't even comprehend on the weird digitalized computer screen. I said I was tired and made the excuse of going to take a nap in his room to get out of there. Both
Mick POV“Uh, Alpha. I found another one,” Ben, one of the omegas that works in the tech department waved me over again. “It's linked with hers.”The webpage was opened on a page with information on Chloe, like ways to find her and any leads provided by this Mr. Smith asshole. There were pages all over the dark web with this same bullshit. Even after Billy removed the main hit on Chloe, all these affiliate links keep being discovered. Most have Darren’s name and information tagged with it, but I’m finding more and more of mine, and so are the others. We already called and got Darren’s permission to delete his accounts and all traces of his streams and videos with Chloe. I guess I’m next.“I think it would be safest if you just removed your account, Mick,” Miles told me, reading my mind.“I think so too.”“Are you going to be okay with that? I know you said something about royalties before.”“It’s fine. My bank is loaded enough anyway.” I really could support Chloe and myself lavishly
Chloe POVEmily took me all through the pack; to the hospital first, since it was the closest to the packhouse, and then the warrior’s center, which was located on the other side. We stayed and I got to talk to the trainers at the warrior center for a while. I was surprised to see that the classes were blended, and people were wearing whatever they wanted. Most women were in leggings and sports bras, sparring and boxing with men as well as other women warriors.Beau and Jamie were there, watching intently as a massive trainer demonstrated how to dislocate the joints of a wolf while in human form. I tried to say hi and got a grunt back from both of them. They were enamored with the lesson. They seemed to have missed the aspects of a pack as well.I asked where Boyd was and Beau snorted. “Hell if I know,” was all he said. I just hope Boyd wasn’t causing problems somewhere. Mick and Miles seem stressed enough.I got an offer to come back in the morning to train with the elite team. I as
Miles POV“We have three vehicles approaching the gate, Alpha. Smells of rogue and other shifter species,” Kevin, one of my warriors, linked me to let me know.“It’s okay. They’re my brother’s and L-Luna’s companions.” Damn, it kept slipping out. Calling Chloe my Luna. If she or my brother were to hear me, this neutral peace we have managed all day might crumble, which isn’t what I need when there are so many threats out there against Chloe.“Mick. Your friends are here. The guards just let me know.”He stretched his arms up above his head, probably sore from being in the same chair for so long as he worked to help get all traces of himself and Chloe off the internet. We’ve been at this for hours.“I’ll go get Chloe and the guys.”“We will meet you at the gate.” Dez should be heading there now. I just wanted to wrap up a few more things; some that would be awkward to do with Mick around.“It’s going to be awkward doing it with anyone around,” Ivar snorted in my head.“Shut it, mutt.
“He has a wolf,” I whispered hoarsely, then squinted to catch what he was doing when he brought his face to her neck. I recognized the wolf’s canines grazing against her skin, too faint for a human to tell, but knowing the motions of mating, I was able to tell what was happening. He bit her, marked her, and the camera just caught the corner of his left eye under her chin, making it look like he was simply sucking on her skin. The blue in his eyes was shining brightly. It was definitely a beast’s power, and it grew the longer his fangs were embedded in her neck.He knocked her mask off, so I had a clear view of her face as she brought it to his neck, marking him in return. A human might have thought she was nibbling on his neck, or giving him a hickey, but to a wolf it was clear what was happening.Something strange happened when she bit him. Her eyes shone, but they were a vivid purple. I would have missed it or thought it was a lingering feather from her mask, but those eyes have alw
