“Turn that off, Paulina! That’s all you’ve been watching all day.”

She looked up and clicked her gums at me, a glimmer in her eyes.

I chuckled. “Yes. I’m proud of our brother too, but we have important matters to address ourselves now.”

I lifted the glass bottle of our niece’s blood from the butcher block counter, holding it to the firelight to examine the flecks of glowing magic dispersed in her blood. It wasn’t active magic, so it needed the help of fire to be seen.

Paulina began clicking her gums, wondering if I was sure it was time.

“Yes, it’s time. She’s loved. Rodger had seen it with his own eyes, so there is nothing more to confirm.” She rolled her eyes and clicked her gums again. I sighed and nodded. “I understand your concern. We will see for ourselves
