Vanessa was swaying back and forth on her feet, her eyes were cast down and her hair fell in front of her face.

When she looked up at me with those round-dark eyes, I knew I couldn't count on her. Vanessa was scared and when you’re scared and you let that fear take over, you’re useless.

I thought she was stronger but I was wrong.

She was too scared of Damien to be trusted.

”He’ll kill you,” she said.

”No he won’t, he needs me.”

Vanessa raised her head.

”He wants to control you and if he thinks he can't do that, what do you think he’ll do?”

I shrugged my shoulders.

”He has leverage, Selene, he has your whole family. If he finds out that he can't make you obey him by being bad, then he’ll force you to. Even if it means killing the people you care about,”

I knew that she was right. Killing people was apparently a hobby to him. He had everyone wrapped around his finger and with one command he could have everyone killed.
