04: The Devil

My body went rigid as I was taken away. I wasn’t allowed to say a word.

Even when I flinched into the dark dungeon. “I promise, I did do anything.” I cried out.

Beta Phineas didn’t spare a second glance as he walked away, leaving me to cry more. Maybe I shouldn’t have agreed to what Miss Laura had proposed.

I should have let her turn my life into hell, maybe then, I would have ended up here. I sobbed hard, my shoulders shaking violently.

“Could you keep your cries down? You are disrupting my peace.” A hoarse voice around the cell said.

I jumped back, scared because I had thought I was the only one staying in the cell. “Who are you?” I asked.

I couldn’t see the face of the person even if I had wanted to. The sunlight isn’t enough to penetrate his face, moreover, he seemed deep in the cell. “I will rather be called your worst nightmares.” He laughed.

“What do you mean by that?” I found myself asking.

I was taken by surprise because I never thought the pack mixes both males and females in the dungeon. Maybe they do and I never had an idea or it is a way that Alpha Ryan has chosen for me to get punished. “You will find out soon baby girl.” He said.

I could hear the faint steps he took toward me. I froze, unable to move when I felt his smelly heavy breath on my face.

He used his tongue to lick the side of my face making me muffle back a scream. “Please stop.” I croaked.

The thought of it alone creeps me out and now that he is this close to me, I can’t stand it.

My head feels so heavy and cold. “Please.” I begged.

That only pushed him more because he used his hands to press my neck against the wall.

Darkness slowly engulfed me and I hope that was the end of my misery.

“Amy, wake up.” I was violently shaken until I fully opened my eyes.

Now the lights in the room were turned on and Miss Laura stood in front of me. She seemed a bit surprised to see me if I read her face well. “You shouldn’t have let him lift the veil.” She complained as soon as our gaze met.

“What?” I asked her, squirting my eyes. I wasn’t sure if I heard her right. She shouldn’t be blaming me for what I had no say in.

If I had to say no to Alpha Ryan, then it would have raised more suspicion.

She shook her head away, touching my neck. “Where it is?” she asked.

“What are you asking about?” I furrowed my brows.

I don’t understand what she is looking for around my neck. It does make sense to see her checking me out that way. “Nothing, how are you feeling?”

Her voice doesn’t sound so genuine yet she is the only key I have to get out of there so I shouldn’t care if it sounded genuine or not. “Not great. I can’t live here. The experience I had here was a bad one and I don’t want to go through it again.” I told her, holding her hand.

She licked her lips, pushing her hands out of mine. “I don’t know if I can take you out. Ryan is enraged.” She informed.

Oh, so she pushed me into this without a plan of getting me out. She fucking trapped me. “I..” I started.

“I don’t want to spend more than a day here, please. I know I shouldn’t be asking you for this but please, get me out of here. I have to get out.” I begged.

Miss Laura stood up, dusting her shirt. “I will have a word with Ryan and try my best to convince him to let you out. You did help me when I needed your help.” With that, she walked out of the cell closing it behind her.

Just a minute after she had left, the lights were switched off. Then my mind wandered back to the man that harassed me earlier.

He doesn’t seem to be in the room. Or maybe, Miss Laura had him taken out when she came.

Either way, I feel safe alone here. Deep in thought, I didn’t hear when the cell door was opened until I heard a metallic sound. “Here is your breakfast.” The dungeon attendant says.

I hurried, carrying the cold plate as if my life depends on it. “Thank you.” I mumbled.

From the day that I spent here, I know how things worked around here. If I had spent a minute or less without taking the food, then the door would have been opened by the dungeon attendant and that will be all.

No food for the rest of the day and I can’t risk that with the way I am so hungry.

Without wasting any time, I shoved down the cold porridge, ignoring the stall taste I get at the end of my throat. The food around here has always been like this and besides, back in the station, I always have leftover food when Christi isn’t in the kitchen. She makes sure I get the rotten part

Most of the time, she isn’t in the kitchen, and complaining to her doesn’t solve a thing so I never wasted my time talking to her about it.

Halfway through the food, I began to feel thirsty. I grabbed the bottled water that came with the food, gulping it down in a go and I hated myself for that. “Wow, take it easy Amy. No one is fighting you for it.” The voice came back, sending me into a state I couldn’t understand.

My hand shivered until the cold metallic plate fell from my hand, the rest of the food pouring onto the ground. “What are you?” I asked again.

I just don’t understand. He wasn’t here some minutes ago and like magic, he came back. Heck, the door wasn’t even opened for up to a minute. “I told you before, I am your worst nightmare.” He replied.

“And don’t even think you can keep me out. I will always be with you, whether you like it or not. I am the one that you belong to, the one to kill you.”

I felt a pang in my chest, what did I do that he would want to kill me? For as long as I remembered, I have crossed paths with anyone blessed with magic. “Let me give you a hint. I am a devil and I have been with you since you were eight.” He informed.

Yeah, I said it. My life has been doomed since the day I was born and there is no way to second thoughts about it.
