My heart is already broken

BELLA’s POV

The world around me blurred as I frantically dialed Aaron's number, the words of the divorce letter still echoing in my mind. But as the call went through, and went to voicemail, I was met with an all too familiar frustration – Aaron's phone remained unreachable.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I couldn't hold back the anger that surged within me. How could he do this to me? How could he end our marriage and simply walk away without even talking to me face to face?

I know it was part of the contract that we were going to go our separate ways but certainly not like this! It hurt so much and I couldn’t even hold the tears that threatened to overflow.

Beside the letter lay a cheque, a sum of one million dollars. Aaron's attempt to buy my silence and cooperation in our divorce only fueled my anger. I snatched the cheque, my trembling hands tearing it to pieces. The act of destruction was a release for my turmoil, but it did nothing to mend the shattered pieces of my heart.
