Twenty-Three

Kathryn had never felt this helpless. Zachary having fever was rare and whenever he had it, Kathryn would take good care of him in their apartment.

But it was different this time. She didn't even have anything with her to keep Zachary warm - there were no beds and blankets, no medicine or soup she could feed to Zachary. Zachary was burning up, his entire body trembling from the cold wind and wet clothes. Kathryn felt helpless and guilty, holding Zachary to his body as much and closer as she could.

Thankfully, Kathryn had her bag with her with an extra pair of clothes and a towel. She had changed Zachary's wet clothes a while back, placing the wet ones near the fire so it would dry up easily. Kathryn had never felt so grateful to her motherly instincts. She always had her bag with her with a pair of clothes, towel, and first aid kit inside, no matter where she went.
