Chapter 31

The morning went very well. Jessie and I peeled potatoes and put them on to boil and set up our breading station for the chicken fried steak. At eleven o-clock, I called my mate to come crank the ice cream maker. When he got to our suite, I had already set up the ice cream maker and sat him down in front of it, telling him to tell me when it gets hard to crank. While he was cranking, Jessie and I started making the chicken fried steaks, then I showed her how to whip the mashed potatoes and make milk gravy. After we were done with all that, I noticed that it was time to start the peach cobbler. After the butter was melted in the pan that we were using for it, I explained, “We are just going to mix our mixture of equal parts, self-rising flour, sugar and milk then pour it into the melted butter and add the peaches on top. Then we put it back in the oven for about forty-five minutes, but we will keep an eye on it. We just want it golden brown on top.” She smiled, “That’s really easy.” I n
