After seeing Amanda and Tommy decide to get married, and feeling she had no right to stop them, especially since Tommy seemed kind and capable of making Amanda comfortable, Maelie decided to go to her children's room, but they were already asleep after their two caregivers had read them a bedtime story. She then moved to her room and found Erland, who had just finished showering, looking fresh with slightly wet hair, bare-chested, and wearing shorts.

"Did you manage to get her to eat?" Erland asked.

"No, but Tommy will make her eat," Maelie replied, then sat on the couch while Erland sat next to her, his eyes fixed on the TV showing a motor racing program.

She fell silent again, her feelings clouded by her husband's somewhat cold demeanor towards her, as if still resentful of her past behavior, and now she realized her actions had been frustrating to others, including Tommy and Amanda.

"Forgive me," she whispered.

Erland immediately turned to her. "Forgive you for what?"
