Five: Safina

Four and a half hours later, inside Angel’s private dressing room.

I’ve been having a very bad week ever since Max unlawfully fired me from my job. I had tried to apply for a higher position in three companies but it’s either they don’t have a vacant position, I’m not qualified enough or there’s an even better candidate than I am.

“You walk out of that door and I swear to god, you won’t have a job tomorrow! I’ll make sure that no company in Seattle will hire you ever again and you won’t get your mother’s house back unless you come back to me!” Max’s voice echoes inside my mind.

I guess he’s made good of his promise, I’m pretty much blacklisted at this point.

I also feel bad to the guy who helped me get a refund at that expensive boutique, I was a little rude towards him because of the bad week I had.

I sighed as I prep the things I needed to do my makeup, but before I could start my phone rings and I knew it was Bella as she was done for the day. I answered it instantly.

“Hey Bels, did you see the envelope on the table?” I wonder as I sat down on my makeup chair

“You know I told you to keep the lingerie Saf.” I can practically see her pouting “And even if you refunded it, you should’ve kept the money.” She sighs sadly

“I appreciate the thought Bella but it’s your hard earned money and I can’t take that. Besides who would I wear that lingerie for huh?” I ask teasingly

“Uh your future boyfriend who’s better than that d*ck. I have more reasons to hate that idiot now.” She spat

“Is it because he blacklisted me in every building in Seattle?” I chuckled “Before I left, he threatened me that he’ll blacklist me in every corporate workplace in Seattle if didn’t accept his apology, which was a bullsh*t apology by the way.” I scoffed, biting my lower lip as I tried to prevent myself from crying over him again.

“I overheard him talk to an executive, asking to prevent you from working for them.” She says angrily “After all you’ve done for him and his company, he freaking sleeps with someone else just because you weren’t giving him enough attention?! Pathetic.” She scoffs

“I’m over it Bels.” I lied “I’ll just have to look for a job outside Seattle.” I sighed and put my long hair in a bun while still holding the phone but putting it down while placed my wig cap on top of my head.

“Actually, I took the liberty of sending your resume to the one company that you’re free to work in as a personal assistant, Moore Industries!” she says cheerfully

“You didn’t have to do that B, what if he’s just like Max huh? I can’t go through that pain and trauma again.” I ask in worry

“I know you’re going to say that so I bribed Penny just to get the juicy details on Henry Moore. He’s a widower for six years now and his last relationship after his wife’s passing was a disaster and his ex is now Max’s future stepmom.” She says, seemingly munching on something “And you have nothing to worry about from the looks of it because he fired his last assistant because she was being inappropriate towards him, seducing him and sh*t .” She added.

“You got all that from Penny? I guess marrying someone who works at Moore Industries has perks, on the gossip side of things at least.” I chuckle

“You’re definitely getting the job though. I’m already calling it in.” she says optimistically

“I thought I’m going to be the optimistic one in this friendship huh?” I joked

“I know you babes, you’re hurting right now. And if I need to be the optimistic one, I’ll be optimistic for the both of us.” She says affectionately

I smile at her words “I love you Bels.”

“Ditto Safi.” She giggled “Have a great night at work! I still have to finish the dumb 5th revision of the marketing proposal.” She huffs “Thanks to Mr. CEO firing his best f*cking employee.” She spat playfully

I laughed and shook my head “It’s his loss, not mine and maybe I can finally pursue my passion if I didn’t get accepted as Mr. Moore’s personal assistant.” I try to sound cheerful

“There’s the Safi I know! See you tomorrow babes!” she says before hanging up on the other line.

I sigh as I started to do my makeup, going for a very angelic look.

Maybe if I don’t get the job in Moore Industries, I can finally pursue writing as a career!

I shook my head at the thought because of what my mother told me, a week before I found her inside her room, dead by dr*g overdose.

“This isn’t the job I want for you Safina.” My mother says as she puts down my essay and shook her head “You’re a very intelligent girl and it’s such a shame that you’re not using your brain for a course that can lead to a high paying job in the future.” She adds

“But my teacher says I’m good and I have potential to be a best selling author one day!” I explained to my mother with a sigh

“And you believe her?” I nodded at her question “This may seem harsh Safi but there’s so many talented authors than you, how can you be so sure that you’ll be a best selling author one day hm?” she sighs “I’m just being realistic love, the things you write isn’t realistic either.” She caressed my cheek

I knew that she was talking about her relationship with my dad so I just sighed “Alright, I’ll study for something that uses my intelligence and I’ll try to get an internship while I’m in college. Writing can just be a hobby.” I smiled softly at her

She sighs and pulls me in for a hug “I just want what’s best for you. A great job and a realistic outlook in life.” She kissed my forehead

“I know Mama, I know.” I sighed and hugged her tightly, ignoring the feeling of hurt towards her because she didn’t accept my will to follow my dream job

“Angel, are you almost done?” Mr. Matthews knocks on the door, breaking my chain of thoughts

“I’m just going to get dressed and finish up my makeup sir! I’ll be done in thirty minutes.” I answer as I put my lipstick on

“Alright! Be ready in the VIP room, I’m picking up the birthday boy right now.” He says

“Okay Mr. Matthews, have a safe drive!” I said kindly

“Thanks Angel.” He says cheerfully as he left

I stood up and got dressed in my costume, a white corset lingerie set, angel wings and 6 inch heels. I also wore my masquerade mask to hide my identity and to complete the look as well.

Nobody knows who I truly am here at Fire And Desire except for Mama Benj. And I want to keep it that way.

I took a deep breath as I strut into the VIP room, feeling nervous about the bad things that might happen to me at the hands of Mr. Matthews’ friend.

But I was going to be proven wrong.
