Chapter Twelve: Negotiation

Rose’s POV

Later that evening, I waited until after dinner, when Greta had left to make my move. Jian was in his home office just like every other night I’ve been here. I approached the office door and slightly knocked on it, ready to put on my act. Throughout the day while I was home, I’d thought about this decision carefully and I realized I couldn’t sell myself out to a stranger. I couldn’t tell him the truth. So I cooked up a believable story that would get me the sympathy I need while painting me as a saint.

I knocked for the second time before he finally responded, asking me to go in. I got in to see him seated behind his desk with a file open before him. His eyes met mine the moment I stepped into the room.

“Hi, I’m sorry to disrupt you,” I stated, approaching the desk.

“It’s no problem. Take a seat,” I did without hesitation. “Are you here to keep me company because you’re bored?” He smirked and I rolled my eyes. “That’ll get you punished, Rosie,”
