Chapter 17. A proposal

Christine paced sideways a sideways, waiting for Isabella's call from half an hour ago, bit her thumbnail, jumped when the cell phone on her desk rang. The screen announced the name "Isa Manning."

-It's about time you called, Isabella. Do you know how you've had me with this ring of uncertainty? A smile appeared on her carmine-red lips.

-Oh, sorry, I was busy," the tone of her voice caused Christine to tense up.

- What's wrong? -she heard as she cleared her throat.

-He bought a ring, with a velvety black box.

- Was it the most expensive? Speak up, quick, and you're making me anxious! -On the other end of the line, the woman at the jewelry store twisted her lip.

-It was a square diamond... fourteen carats. -Christine raised her eyebrows.

- Only fourteen carats? That's nothing! -she shouted angrily and started pacing around her office.
