We Were Drunk

"Yes, once, but we were both drunk and I was the one who got physical first." I sobered reminiscing the first time my charming sweetheart landed a slap on my face.

We had attended some rich guy's birthday party, I think he was Gerard's business partner. I had stopped going out to casual events and even the business events that I would go to, Gerard would first have to allow me to attend, if I decided to attend a business seminar without his permission, He would get moody or sometimes he would get distant for a while.

I got in my favorite attire, it had been a while going out to a casual event. A black elastic dress traced my body accordingly, and I put on some light makeup.

"Mmmm that's my girl, beautiful, smart, loving, hardworking and also sexy. Just the combination every man wishes to have. I think I once met a ginny in my sleep..." Gerard walked to me as I was admiring myself in the mirror.

"Am really lucky to have you in my life." He said hugging me from behind.

"Thanks baeb." I replied holding his hands that were wrapped around my waist.

He placed some feather like kisses on my neck. The kisses were doing their trick according. The excitement in my belly was being stirred up.

I turned to kiss him and he pull away,

"We'll come continue it when we are back. I don't want to ruin the makeup." He whispered to my ear as he pulled away.

I wore a shallow frown begging him for a kiss. He smirked moving back, making me cut out the play. I turned to get my purse so we can leave.

"Mmm that's pretty tight, get a coat to cover the curves, they're tempting and the party is going to be full of old perverts."

"I guess they will have to look the other side or they'll die staring cause they are not going to have a touch." I said picking up my purse following Gerard towards the door.

"Its not about them baeb, am more concerned about you. People will treat you like some fancy lady that's trying to get the attention of guys. You're a billionaire's fiancée baeb, dress like it." I frown as he insisted.

A few minutes we were on our way to the party. I put on a dark gray coat that complimented my glasses. I was looking forward to enjoying myself there. Its been a while going out to such events.

"Hey beautiful, do you have a distraction permit cause your glow is disturbing my sight.

The name is David Varache." A young man walked to me on the side.

Gerard was caught up in a discussion with his friends and I was a seat away from him. He barely turned to me, he was busy with his friends. And when I tried to go get a drink or dance a bit, he was complaining, he just wanted me to be around him, so he can see me whenever he turns his head.

The live and fun party was boring to me. I was just watching others enjoy themselves while I was stuck with my fiancée who was enjoying his time talking to his friends.

"Laura Wesley. And I don't have a permit. I have a license." I said turning to the handsome man.

"Seems like you enjoy distracting others? What do you do for a living?" He asked while his eyes scanned my body.

"Am a business lady."

"I thought so." He said pointing me with his glass of red wine.

The sweet aroma of the wine made me do something awkward. I asked him to bring me a bottle of the wine he was drinking.

He smirked, looking triggered, he was wondering why I would be asking him to bring me a bottle when I can go get one if I wanted. The counter was not too far from our table, but the dancing crowd in between our table and the counter, made the jealous man seated next to me, deny me the freedom of going to the counter.

Gerard turned to me with a smile as if I was also having a great time. I forced a smile so he can turned back to his friends before David gets back. He chuckled turning back to his friends like everything was alright.

A moment later David was bring my bottle with a smile. He was probably looking forward to where our conversation was heading. And I just wanted a bottle of wine to keep me company as Gerard was busy with his friends.

'"Here you go beautiful." David handed me the bottle and a wine glass.

"So you were saying you own a number of charity foundations?..." I asked pouring the wine in my glass.

"Yeah, I actually have three in the city and a number of them out of New York..."

David started explaining about his charity organization, the loving heart foundation. I enjoyed hearing about it, their objectives are a lot like ours at Girlsmith, the only difference is that we are gender specific, but everything else is similar.

I started enjoying his company after downing the third glass. The wine was now doing its thing in my head. I took off the coat as I started feeling hot. I refilled my glass feeling happy and free.

I quickly downed the fourth glass and I felt the liquor running inside my veins. I didn't want to accept it but I was already tipsy. I couldn't put out the smile on my face.

"Am bored here let's go dance." I got up grabbing David's hand, pulling him to the dance floor.

I had forgot that I came with Gerard. I raised my hands, shaking my hips to the rhythm of the beat. David held my waist dancing closely.

"Damn you're pretty as fuck." He whispered pulling me closer.

"Shh, do you want to have a night stand?" The wine in my head started talking on my behalf. I just wanted to enjoy the moment, I wasn't thinking about the consequences.

"What the fuck are you doing with my wife?" Gerard shouted pushing David away.

"Oh baeb, you done talking with your friends?" I asked after finally making my stand. I almost fell when Gerard pushed David.

"What the fuck were you doing with him?" Gerard asked furiously. His eyes screened me like he was looking for traces of David's hands on my body.

"I was just having fun, why do you always have to ruin my mood. I didn't disturb you when you were talking to your friends..." I mumbled my complaint.

"What the fuck was that for man? I didn't know she is married." David got up on his feet.

"She has a ring on her finger you moron!" Gerard yelled charging for David. One of his friends held him back stopping him from landing the blow he had raised for David.

Gerard's friend pulled him to the side to end the chaos. Gerard pulled me along.

"You should have paid more attention to her, instead of turning your back on her like you're gay." David said when we were a few steps away.

"That's enough am killing this son of a bitch." Gerard furiously turned charging for David. The guys tightened their grip on Gerard.

We got out of the party, leaving the people talking about the issue. Gerard was shrugging without saying a thing. I was mumbling all the way, trying to explain myself but he was too pissed to hear me out.

Gerard quickly walked out of the car when we reached home. He paced for the manor walking like someone late for work.

"Come on baeb. Wait for me." I got out of the car following him.

"Just what the fuck were you thinking Laura? What the fuck was were you trying to do? Dancing with some loser while am around? wonder what you do in places where am not around." Gerard combed his hair with his fingers.

"You turned your back on me when you started chatting with your friends, what the hell did you want me to do? Plead for your attention like those bitches in your dm? I saw the messages, you've been fuck around..." I brought up the very issue I told myself not to ask him about.

"Why were you going through my phone?" He asked looking at me like I wronged him something big.

"I don't know what I was looking for but the messages just popped up from nowhere, and that's how I followed through the whole conversations..."

"What the fuck is wrong with you? Firstly you go through my phone when you damn well know that you're not supposed to. Then today you decide to stripe for some lowlife loser like some cheap whore..." He shrugged rubbing he face before let a sigh.

"Don't shift the blame on me like you're perfect. You've been cheating on me, so don't you fucking act righteous with me." I cussed at him getting upset.

"Bitch watch your tone. Don't talk to me like that." He threatened with furious eyes.

"Who the fuck are you calling bitch?" I through the closest thing I saw next to me.

I missed him and the glass cup broke a few steps away from him. Before I could realized what was happening, Gerard already got close to me, I tripped a few steps before I could stand steady. My face felt disfigured and my cheek was burning.

I caressed my cheek in disbelief. I didn't believe it was happening. I picked another wine glass from the table, and it landed on his back when he turned. He charged for me overwhelming me with slaps, I put my hands over my head so he doesn't hurt me. He kept on slapping till my hands hurt and when I lowered them, he didn't hesitate to hit my face making me raise my hurting hands again.

I called for the house keepers to come save me. The guys came to stop the fight and Gerard stepped back furious. He stormed out going up stairs. I remained crying in the living room. Ashley my favorite house keeper was comforting me as I was still trying to process what had happened. Flashbacks of the times Antonio would beat me up flooded my mind and I cried in Ashley's embrace for a while.

"Why didn't you talk about it sweetheart?" Mum asked thoughtfully, pity and hurt were evident in the tone of her voice.

"Don't tell me, he was the one who gave you those marks on you I asked about."

I frown at a lose of words, I regret lying to Metor when she asked. She got upset when she learned the truth.

She had asked me about the marks a few days after Gerard beat me. I told her a lie to protect my relationship. I didn't want her to overact knowing how she gets about my issues. Thanks to her, Antonio can't be 300 feet near me.

"I didn't want to lose him. I knew if I told you the truth. You were going to start a riot. And I was hoping he would change." I chuckled realizing how much I was blinded.

"You could have at least told me something close to the truth, I know how it feels - -" Metor's phone rang interrupting her.

"Yes Zoe." She put the phone to her ear.

Her expression started changing as she was listening to Zoe. She hissed sounding upset, I got worried wondering what was happening. Anxiety kicked in when I overheard my name on the call.

"What is going on?" I inclined my head to Metor.

"Turn on the TV to channel 4." Metor whispered.

Mum quickly pressed the remote. My terrified face was on the screen, they were airing a clip of my failed wedding. The presenter was passing silly comments on me as she asked for the viewers to tune in at 8 PM, she is going to have the best man on the show. And if things go well she might even get Gerard on air.

My heart almost forgot that its not allowed to take a break, no matter how bad the pain gets, it has to keep beating. I felt the familiar disgrace and shame that I had when Henry suddenly cancelled our engagement in public.

Tears rolled down my face when I remembered how the twenty one year old me cried at the function. It happened about a decade ago but I can vividly recall every little hurt of that day. Henry's side bitch was relishing on my disgraced just like the TV presenter is picking me apart with her ridicules.

"Don't cry to give up, hang in there baby girl. We will get through this like we always do..." Metor hugged me tightly.

Mum also got close to comfort me as well. I stayed in their embrace for a while, their love cushioned the pain. I felt bold enough to tell them everything that was troubling me.

We put away our phones, so we don't receive more sad news. Metor and mum's phones were popping with notifications, people were asking about me. The clip of how I broke down into tears at the altar was floating all over the media.
