DAWN
Morning comes faster than I'm ready for it. I rub the sleep from my eyes as I feel Kyle move away, and the pressure on my side of the mattress shifts. I run my hands at his vacant spot while my eyes adjust to the incoming light through the long windows in our bedroom.I feel him lean in as I close my eyes again. His fingers run through my hair as I yawn."We are going to get late, Dawn. I'm heading off to shower. You can shower after me."Without opening my eyes, I nod and toss under the duvet."Would you like to shower before I do?" Then I can feel him smiling. "Or join me?"I grab a pillow from his side of the bed and shove it lightly against his bare abs."Just go and shower.""All right, babe." He chuckles. "I'll be out in no time.""Maybe I'll cook breakfast while you shower."Shaking his head, he opposes the idea."You already cooked dinner last night." He smiles before he leaves for the bathroom. "Catch up on your slDAWN"I think it's all done. I've finished this mind-numbing part of the marketing strategy." I edge my work chair closer to Julie's, who is scratching the back of her neck, lost in her thoughts. "What are you working on?"Julie has a faraway look in her eyes, but when she hears me talking, she pivots her head around to take a look at me."Uh, did you say something to me?"I nod my head."What are you thinking about?" Then I assess her face for clues. "It looks like something is going on. Isn't it?"She licks her lower lip, hiding her face from me. She doesn't say anything for a long minute then her eyes flick to her computer monitor. I eventually glimpse an open email as her cursor blinks near the subject line, but Julie hasn't gotten around to sending an answer yet. When I stare closely at the contents of the email, my jaw hits the floor. Is this for real?"What the hell is that about?"Julie takes a second to realise I have read her personal email, but she doesn't seem mad. From he
DAWNDuring the lunch break, I slip out of the cafeteria unnoticed by anyone and make my way to the elevators. I punch the buttons to take me to Kyle's office floor, and I suck in a deep breath because it's slightly a risk I'm taking. Knowing I have no business to go and see him right now, and that only makes me want to see him more. We've been texting back and forth the entire day, and he's been sending me sweet messages. My heart thumps against its walls, and adrenaline rises in my veins.Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I type a text message to him.Have you eaten lunch?I'm coming to see you. Then I kill the screen and put it back in my skirt's pocket, hoping he sees my text messages and responds. Within a moment, he replies swiftly.I unlock the screen to read his messages.Uh, if you want to come to see me, come quick.I have to leave soon for another meeting after lunch.A weird sensation flips my stomach as I stare at my ph
DAWNWhat was that about? Why was he so distant?Somehow, I find myself walking towards the extended lobby and then stumbling inside the elevator car, my eyes on the floor.Did he really leave without saying anything? Why was he in such a hurry?Did something happen at work? What is he hiding from me?Does he not trust me enough to open up to me?Scary thoughts swirl through my head as I swallow and sigh inadvertently. Wringing my fingers, I bite my lower lip.I wanted to surprise him.Instead, I was surprised by how formal he was when he kissed me.Is this how it will always be when we are at the office?Feeling embarrassed at the whole encounter, I bite the insides of my cheek. Not knowing where I'm going, I press the call buttons on the keypad to take me to the cafeteria floor. If I have to be an emotional wreck about what my husband feels about me, I will not do all the thinking on an empty stomach.Fuck
DAWNLater in the afternoon, when I'm on my fifth cup of coffee, I watch my phone buzz, sitting next to my computer. Fidgeting with the stylus on my work tablet, I unlock the screen. My eyes zero in on a message sent from an unknown number.Do you really think I won't be able to find you?Sucking in a deep breath, I stare at the sender's number of the suspicious message I just received on my phone. No matter how hard I think, I still can't put the number to a name in my head. I think long and hard about this.Who is this?Is it him?Could it be him?I thought he must have forgotten all about me.Is he still keeping tabs on me?Another message pops up on my screen.I know you're hiding in plain sight, but I can't really tell how long you'll keep hiding from me, Dawn. ;)As I'm reading the insidious text of the current message on my phone screen, two more messages pop up from the same number. Biting the inside of my lips, I open t
KYLEFeeling the anticipation as I head home after the long day I have just had feels soothing. The drive back home puts me in a mood of excitement and merriment. I feel like a child on Christmas morning waiting to open the gifts my nanny has planned and picked out for me because I had been such a good boy the entire year. Even hearing Neil whistling while he drives me back home doesn't sullen my mood even a little bit."Are you done texting your wife, Mr Waugh?" Neil asks. "Can I have my phone back? I need to text a friend."Picking up the phone from my side of the seat, I hand it back to him with a warning."Don't text and drive, Neil. It is not safe." I shake my head. "It's not a good habit unless you want to get us killed."Neil laughs."I wanted to text my friend after I dropped you off." He licks his lips. "I have a church meeting I want to attend tonight, and I am also running a bake sale over the weekend. That's why I needed my phone for updates
KYLE"Do you want me to get rid of your shirt?" I smile as I bring my nose to inhale her scent as I caress my nose against her neck. I lick her chin slowly, gently moving to her ear, and then take a moment to kiss her neck. "I want to get access to your beautiful chest." Sighing, I step a step back as I hold her shoulders. "Or you can go upstairs and clean up. God, I need to stop trying to be inside you the moment you come home."Dawn finally talks, licking her lower lip as she stares at my hands."I want you to get access to my chest." She laughs nervously. "And I like how you're trying to get inside me the moment I came home." She bites her lower lip and makes a show of it. "I guess we both missed each other, huh?""I sure did miss you."Stepping closer to her, I open the top few buttons of her shirt. The silk fabric beneath it reveals a black bra with intricately embroidered red and pink poppies on the cups. It's the one I picked out for her alongside her
DAWNWaking up in Kyle's arms, I raise my head a little to look at the surroundings. Bright light pops in from the curtains as I shove a hand in my hair to remove it from my face. As I blink my sleepy eyes slowly a few times to clear my vision, my eyes fall onto the wall clock, and I sigh into the back of my hand to see that it's close to five-thirty a.m. The sun outside feels hot, and I stretch my limbs drowsily, wondering if I have a lot of work today on my hands. I remove Kyle's warm hand from my torso and sit up as I straighten my back to lean against the headrest.Yawning, I watch Kyle's bare chest rise and thud as he inhales comfortably in his sleep. Immediately, a blush colours my lips as I replay the events from last night. I reckon we moved from his den eventually to eat the dinner he cooked for me before I came home, and then he stayed up with me in bed as we stared at the ceiling and talked. I remember him caressing my hair to comfort me when sleep became heavy
KYLEWhen I wake up in the morning to get ready for work, I feel Dawn's warm hand resting on my bare chest. I twist and turn against the sheets to face her. Her fingers lay outstretched, and her chest rises and thuds gradually as she breathes while sleeping. Her mouth makes a pout, and her eyes move beneath her lids. I reach her face with my long fingers to fix her hair behind her ear.I reckon it's a blessing to watch her fall asleep next to me and wake up next to her.My fingers fix more of her hair as I kiss her on her cheeks. Her eyes flutter beneath her lids for a second, but then she hides her face as she moves to sleep on her side. Begrudgingly, I rip the duvet off me, take a moment to properly spread it over her body and get out of bed. I wish I could spend another fifteen minutes with her, staring at her sleepy face and caressing her, but I have to get to work early for a meeting. The planning team is almost in the final stages with the most significant
