Chapter Forty-four

Rob was willing to be with her, despite carrying another man's child. If only she wasn't powerless and could fight Kendrick back.

"Anything for you." Chloe hugged her back. "You know I hate to see you sad. We have to make sure you don't make any mistakes. If I have told Rob the truth, he might think of giving up on you after so many years together. And we don't want that, right?"

"Yeah." Hailey sniffled back her tears.

"And about your career, you've really come up with a great plan. This Way, he can't get to be around you all the time."

"Yeah." Hailey nodded.

The door flung open, jolting both of them and Chloe's mother stepped inside with a stern expression. Hailey didn't need to be told the woman had been eavesdropping.

"Who can't get to be around who?" She narrowed her eyes at Hailey.

"We're only discussing stuff, Mum," Chloe defended quickly. "Sister was only—"

"Yeah, I don't care." The woman waved her hands. "Are you sure you haven't done anything again? Did you only come to
