Chapter 4

She had slept with him. Her mind was still reeling from what had happened just a few hours ago. What was she going to blame, the stress and exhaustion of the day, the alcohol or maybe temporary insanity. She must have lost her mind. So many thoughts ran through her head on succession.

Jerking her thoughts away from questions she couldn't answer, she headed towards the bathroom pulling off her crumpled clothes on the way.

She filled up the bathtub, setting the water temperature to a warmer temperature. She watched as it filled with water, the trickling sound of the water cooled her fraying nerves.

Her mind began racing again. How was she going to face him tomorrow?. Now that it had happened, she wasn't sure she was cool enough to pretend nothing had happened between them.

“Well you should have thought of that before you slept with him”, her mind chatised her.

All the rational reasoning she had locked in at the back of her mind were finally making an entrance. This was a completely uncharted territory for her. She liked sex,and she enjoyed it but only with people she was in a committed relationship with, not a brown-eyed irresistible devil. She'd never had a one-night stand before, she wondered how she would face him tomorrow. Where did they go from here?.

She laid her head on the cool tiles, lightly tapping it with the tips of her fingernails, her eyebrows creased in confusion.

Her mind reeled back to the first day they'd first met. Though she had heard of him multiple times from her brother, she had never actually met him before.

Reid had arrived in the front of the company building a bundle of nerves. After the necessary inspection and questions at gate, she was directed over to the receptionist office. The receptionist, a striking looking woman, walked her over to his office.

The short walk to the office astounded her, from beautifully potted plants to richly designed furnitures and architecture,it was befitting of its power and success.

This made her even more nervous than she usually was and the impeccably dressed man sitted behind the large mahogany table did nothing to ease her nerves.

He had the most jaw dropping face she had ever seen with desert brown eyes that seemed to stare at her soul. He was handsome and he knew it.

Clasping her hands together in front of her, her back arched upright, she stared straight at him not breaking his gaze. She knew she was poorly under qualified for the job and had only been given a chance because of her brother, but she will be damned if she let him see her scared. It was false bravado but that was all she had.

So what if he was insanely gorgeous?.

He was still a misogynistic arrogant jerk whose confidence level was through the roof.

For all the six months she had been working for him, he had never said a single word of please or thank you. He was so entitled. He'd made it absolutely clear he didn't like her since after the humiliating mistake she'd made on her first week on the job.

Ever since the incident, he'd insisted on scrutinizing every single task he had given her, watching for another mistake to kick her out. She knew if it wasn't for her brother's cajoling he would probably have already fired her by now, instead he’d made her do simple and boring task in a bid to force her to leave on her own.

It had almost worked, but the thought of losing her brother's trust once again had quickly change her mind. Besides, she didn't want to give Sullivan the satisfaction of seeing her leave.

Of course,he didn't treat the rest of the staff the way he treated her. She had sometimes seen the pitiful looks they had thrown at her and it erked her.

So why did he made a move on her now on this trip?, was he suddenly attracted to her now?, or was it the mood and change in the setting?”, she mused.

The coldness of the water in the bathtub snapped her out of her reverie. There was no point in thinking about it now. The deed had already been done and they was no going back. Now she needed to figure out how to get through the rest of her stay here and what would become of her when they got back home.

What if he wanted her to leave her job?, she would really hate that. She liked her job. She enjoyed the challenge and appeal that came with the job besides it'd take her a really long time to find another one that was as good as it.

Back home, Sullivan sometimes sent her to assist some of the upper level executive and it was on those days she really liked her job. Unlike Sullivan the executives never doubted her skill and competence and always gave her challenging tasks.

She hoped Sullivan and her could come to a compromise instead of her leaving the company altogether.

Done with her bath, she slipped out of the bathroom and pulled the warm terry-cloth bathrobe.

She strolled over to the window staring out at the night life below her. It was break taking.

She'd always wanted to come here with her family but she'd been too caught up in her own life and time just kept on going. She had promised herself she would bring them here when she'd make it as a dancer.

She smiled wistfully as memories of the past came over her, remembering all she'd lost and all the sacrifices she'd made to achieve her dream. The people she had hurt;her grandparents, though they had forgiven her she couldn't help feeling a pang of hurt anytime she remembered them.

She tried to shut it at the back of her mind. Just when she thought she had finally gotten over it, it would always come back haunting her reality. She drew in a long breath and realised it shakily.

She had way too much going on right now and she couldn't allow the what ifs and shoulda beens to intrude on an already emotional rollercoaster of a night. She tried to focus on the view emptying her mind of everything.

From her vantage point of view the night life sparkled relentlessly and showed no sign of slowing down despite the ungodly hour. It was as if everybody in the city was up and about with full force.

A yawn slip past her lips. She knew she should probably get some sleep, it was around two and Gabriel Sullivan would undoubtedly be up and about before eight.

Climbing into the king size bed, she had a view of the night skyline. The anticipation of tomorrow loomed over her as she fell into a restless sleep, a certain brown-eyed devil still on her mind.
