CHAPTER 67: Under the moonlight and starlight

Again, we locked eyes across the table, everything around us fading away as if we existed in our own universe, lost in the depths of each other’s eyes. I could feel her desire, a calm, gentle, controlled longing to escape forever into that universe where our love was undeniable, or perhaps feared.

Barely noticing my chef as he placed the first course between us—a simple plate of fruit and cheese—I watched her eat, marveling at the heat that came from simply watching her take each bite. Her face was amazingly expressive, taking every bite with precision as if tasting for the first time.

She gazed at me over her glass as she sipped her wine, slipping a grape between her lips, smiling coyly as her teeth crushed the skin, juices exploding into her mouth. Excesses streamed down the left corner of her mouth, and Meredith licked it clean with one swirl of her tongue before reaching for a strawberry.

Deliberately snatching it just as her fingertip touched the red fruit, I grinned as
