A tough call to make

Eve's POV

"Goodbye Eve," 

My eyes remained tightly closed until I heard the sound of the door closing behind him. 

He was gone. His words replayed in my head and I willed my eyes to open. 

There was no Adam. There was no one. It was just me, the sound of my heart racing as if it ran a marathon and a loud pounding in my head.  

Tears burned the corner of my eyes, a lone tear rolled down my cheek, to the ground and as of unleashing a curse, others followed. 

"He left," I choked out, feeling a certain kind of pain twist in my chest, making it rather hard to breathe. I knew Adam was gone for good, this time.  

I dropped to my knees, my mouth parting in a wide strangled sob as the tears fell unrestrained. I had never felt so humiliated in my entire life. I could still hear it, his mother's words. They rang in my head
