Chapter 6

After the stifling dinner, the family of five retired to their separate rooms.

The atmosphere was so tense that even the food lost it's yumminess.

Once they reached the bedroom, Janet immediately turned to her husband.

"What is the meaning of that?"

"Meaning of what?"

"What you did to our daughter!"

"Won't I be the one questioning you what is wrong with you?" Jeffrey retorted angrily.

"What is wrong with me? We just meant to teach her a simple lesson, but that bitch took things too far by feeding our daughter chilli. You know how much Rael hates chilli ever since she was young."

"And you slapped her infront of her younger siblings, what will they think of her? A sore loser who is physically abused by her father?" Janet was really mad. Although her daughter was dumb, she still loved and cared for her. She could not stand by and watch her suffer.

"Enough woman." Jeffrey said.

Jeffrey was incensed. This woman was really dumb and could not even read between the lines.

He felt like his life time had been reduced by half ever since he married her.

"What are you yapping about? Can't you see that I was just playing along!"

"What do you mean?"

"I told you not to openly go against Lavender didn't I? Even if you hate her, we are still living in their house. What will happen if she decides to chase us out? Where will we go?"

"We atleast have to lower our heads for the time being as I think of a way to send them away for good." Jeffrey said.

"What?" Janet was shocked. Her husband was working on a plan to send Lavender and her grandfather away and for good? When did all these start.

"Don't ask any more questions. Just don't make things too difficult for her. Even if you want to bully her, just do it discreetly." Jeffrey said.

"So you are on our side?" Janet asked her husband.

"Of course. Why shouldn't I be on my family's side. Soon and very soon, this whole house is going to be ours." Jeffrey said. He could no longer hide the greed in his eyes.

"This house?"

"Of course."

"I stumbled upon the title deed of the house when the old man had just been paralysed. It was actually written under Lavender's name. At first, I did not know what to do with it so I just kept it and hoped that I will return it to the old man after he has regained his senses. I once talked to some of my friends whom I knew and they said that it is possible to change the ownership, I just have to declare that the previous owner was dead and I'm his relative and the house will be put under my name. I was feeling guilty at first but they told it was not against the law. Since the family business had already collapsed, we can't possibly remain with nothing. The old man also has a few days left go leave. By that time, Lavender will be at our mercy."

"Ooh..."

"So I'm in the process of changing the ownership, once it's finalised, we will be the real owners of the house and we can do whatever we want to her or both if the useless man will still be alive."

Janet was ecstatic when she heard her husband.

'If we really manage to own this place, it will be very good. At least I will be able to walk with my head held high.' Janet thought.

She never knew that her husband was such a smart ass often times. He could even think of that, it will be great if they will be able to own it.

"But don't tell anyone of it yet, especially Rael, she might slip and let Lavender know of our plan, that might land us in serious trouble." Jeffrey warned.

"Okay."

....

After getting the keys to her room, Lavender immediately went to give her grandfather medicine. He was the same as yesterday, no changes in his condition.

But Lavender had no expectations at all because the medicine she was giving him was just like a painkiller, it could only help his condition not to detoriate further.

She stayed with her grandfather for a while before living.

When she entered her bedroom, she saw all her beddings were covered in water. She did not have to think too much before knowing the mastermind.

She only shook her head at her naivety, took a change of clothes and went to her grandfather’s room.

After cleaning up, she climbed on her grandfather’s bed and fell into a deep sleep.

She slept until morning before she was woken by phone call from her friend.

"Girl, aren't you coming to work?"

"What time is it?"

"It's almost 9." Stella said over the phone.

"What? I slept that much? Ooh my God, will I be able to keep my job? I think I'm doomed!" Lavender said.

"What are you screaming about. The boss called me early in the morning and told me we can take a day off, I was just pulling your leg." Stella giggled over the phone when she heard her friend's nervous voice.

"Waah! You really scared me. Don't ever do that again. You almost made me go insane."

"Okay, sleep some more, we will hang out later. We have been tired this past few days."

"Okay." Lavender replied. She closed her eyes but her sleep seemed to have vanished.

She opened her eyes and stayed wide opened in bed. Her grandfather was breathing faintly beside her. If not for that fact that Lavender was lying next to him, she would have thought that there was no life in him given how weak his breathing was.

After pacing out for some times, Lavender dragged her body to the washroom. If she did not go to work today, it meant that she won't be able to buy her grandfather’s medice, although she had saved some money from yesterday's work, it was barely enough after she bought her dinner. She needed to find something to do today.

She washed up in her grandfather’s bathroom before going to her room to find a change of clothes. She could not possibly go out in her pajamas.

But when she reached her bedroom, she almost fainted as the scene that greeted her eyes. All her clothes were cut into pieces and thrown everywhere in the room. Even her handbags that her parents had bought for her when they were alive were in pieces.

Lavender felt like crying. Was it not enough that they changed the locks to her bedroom door, poured water on her beddings? They have now destroyed all her clothes. What was she going to wear. How was she going to get out. Did they want her to die for them to be satisfied?

She stomped her feet angrily and went downstairs. She swore she will teach those bastards a lesson they will never forget.

When she reached downstairs, no one was in the house. She looked everywhere but there was no one.

'Had they run away because of guilty. I couldn't belive that they could do these to me. Where do I start now?' Lavender was really frustrated.

'Wait, I had some little cash, I think it will be enough for me to buy some second hand clothes at a stall vendor.' She returned upstairs after coming to a decision.

It was best to wear second hand clothes rather wearing pajamas since she needed to find a job. It would have been fine if she was staying in doors.

Lavender went to her room and rummaged through the piles of cut clothes to find her purse.

When she finally found it, she opened it but was surprised to find it empty. There nothing in her purse, even a coin.

'What the hell? They even took my money? What am I going to do?' Lavender was on the verge of crying.

She was used to her auntie taking money from her, but this was too much? Was she their slave.

At this point, she really missed her parents so much. How she wished they were still alive. She regretted taking them for granted when they were still alive. She felt her hot tears streaming down her cheeks.
