Chapter 39

Monte rushed, clutching the bouquet he ordered from the mall. In a hurry for their dinner at home with friends and his grandfather, celebrating his first anniversary with Ericka. Glancing at his watch, he collided with something hard.

"Sh!t," he cursed, feeling pain. "What the..."

A baby in a stroller cried.

"Oh my God, baby... are you..." the woman looked up, "Monte?"

"Almira?" he couldn't believe seeing her here.

Almira, uncharacteristically silent, hurriedly pushed the stroller away. He caught up.

"Wait, Almira!" he held her arm. "You're married now?"

"Excuse me, we're leaving," she withdrew her arm from his grip.

"Your child is handsome. How many months old?" he asked.

"Don't bother!" she replied, attempting to turn away, but he intercepted. "Is that my child?"

She pulled her arm away, "He doesn't have a father because his useless father left me and married someone else!" With that, she defiantly walked away, leaving him stunned. Was that really his child? But how? Why didn't she
