“So you made up with your wife, huh?”

I didn’t know if Charles was jobless or he got fired recently but these days, he suddenly had enough time to visit me in my office during work hours. “Why do you think so?”

“You’ve been smiling since I stepped in and I know you’re not that happy to see me.”

“You are right. I’m not happy to see you at all. What are you doing here? Don’t you have a job to do?” I couldn’t help but question. He used to be worse than me when it came to overworking. These days, I didn’t think he was working at all.

“I’m reducing my workload. I want to retire soon.”

I looked at him as though he was crazy. “You’re thirty, bro. What are you retiring for? Who are you going to spend all your free time with when you retire? You’ll be without a job or a love life. That’s just pathetic.”

“George.” He let out a strained laugh. “I knew you were mean but I didn’t know you were this mean. What the fuck?”

“I’m just wondering.” I shrugged. “No hard feelings.”
