Chapter 29

“They are coming, Mayrr, they are coming for us all. We need to move very soon,” the older man groaned from the door, and the woman looked up, tears filling her eyes as she watched her little baby covered in sweat and red from whatever he was infected with.

He was in pain, and she couldn’t help him. That alone was breaking his heart; he didn’t know why it was happening, but it wasn’t the way he planned for his life to go. He closed the door gently, making sure not to draw unwanted attention to himself; he approached his young wife. He rubbed her head before placing it on his chest, and he knew everything would be alright soon; they just needed more time. Everything happening around them was enough for a sane man to lose his mind, but Liet knew he had to stay put for the sake of his family.

“We would see this through, Mayrr. We would, I promise you.” He whispered with his voice cracking at the end, and they both fell silent while Mayrr cried. She cried for everything they had lost and
