Chapter 67

Mia's POV

We raced through the bushes till I almost fell down from lack of air. We were in the garden behind the castle, trying to escape from the guards that had trailed us as we rushed through the castle hallways on our way to escaping.

"I don't like this," I panted as we took yet another turn, trying to lose the guards. "We shouldn't leave Mabel just like that,"

They remained silent while we crashed through the bushes, till we finally came to a clump that was thick and high enough for us to hide in. No one talked till the guards rushed past us, obviously thinking we were still up ahead.

"Now is a good time to go back," I repeated. "Whatever guards are left would be low on their guards now,"

"You really are a dummy, aren't you?" Lycidas gritted out. "Can't you see they looked like they were having a friendly conversation before we butted in?"

Mason was more gentle. "We might have put her in trouble," he said gently. "We would only be distractions if we go back now,"

"I —" I star
