CHAPTER 38

—You've been there for almost an hour. It's time for your medication. I've already dismissed the nurse like you asked. Come on, I'll take you to your room — Simon's voice woke me up to the present moment.

—Thank you, Simon. Leave me here just a little longer. I'm going to rest now.

—Okay, but take the pill,— he insisted.

I grabbed the medicine and the glass of water he was holding and gulped it down. Spok stopped beside Simon and stared at me. I extended my hand to him and he soon came to seek my affection.

—Everything here reminds me of Laura. Even Spok .— I sighed too loudly.

—Truth! Even her scent is in the room.

—I can imagine how unbearable this is for you.— I confess that I can't stop thinking about her. The scene with that man in the bathroom, the shots. It doesn't get out of my head.

Simon crouched down in front of the chair and pursed his lips into a thin line.

—You did what you could. If Laura is alive, it's thanks to you, who were there to protect her and st
