The Butler

Episode 1

Written by Victor Olusa

Sarah stood outside a small bungalow building, actually more of an orphanage home, glancing around nervously. With both her arms crossed at her back. A behavior indicating she was awaiting someone's arrival.

"Calm down dear." She heard a voice from behind. She looked back and saw a middle aged woman, dressed in a simple cream colored gown, walk out from the building.

"I'm just anxious and excited. Finally a family has adopted me." She replied with a smiling face. "After all this years. Hope they are good."

"Well they are wealthy." The middle aged woman replied.

"Common Aunt Linda. It's not just about the money. Are they nice? Will they treat me like an adopted child or otherwise?"

"Well.." Linda was unsure of what to say.

A black vintage car unnoticed by any of them due to their talks, suddenly parked In front of them.

"I guess they are here." Linda said looking at the car, same for Sarah.

The back door of the vintage vehicle opened slowly. A tall young handsome man, clad in a black shirt with a black tye, and on top was a black suit. He had catlike eyes, with a perfect jawline and attractive pink lips. Sarah stared for awhile, captivated by his good looks.

"Good morning ladies!" He greeted them, with a bit of a bow.

"Call me James. I was sent by the Ragon family to pick up Sarah Ragon." He said, sparing a glance at Sarah before returning his gaze at Linda.

Sarah's lips twitched Abit, hearing the last name. Even though the papers have been signed, it still sounded odd to her ears hearing her name associated with it. And she was pretty annoyed with the fact that a representative was sent to pick her up, and not the Parents themselves.

"Ohh. Welcome James." Linda greeted with a friendly smile. "Sarah, why don't you go say ur byes byes and pick up your belongings. Don't let us delay this fine gentleman. No?"

Sarah nodded in response, leaving them behind.

A few minutes passed, yet Sarah was yet to come out

"Sorry to ask, who are you to the Ragon family?" Linda asked, trying to break the awkward silence.

"A Butler." James replied.

Linda was surprised. A Butler wasn't really important nowadays, but yet the fact that a Butler was sent to pick Sarah up meant two things. Either Sarah wasn't of much importance to them, or the Butler was some kind of high post within the Ragon family.

"Wow." Linda muttered. And soon the awkward silence lingered on.

"Finally!" Linda breathed out, seeing Sarah come out with a big pink bag in her left hand.

"Is this all?" James asked.

"Uhmm, yes."

"It took you to long to just pack that."

"A problem with that? And besides I had to say my good-byes!" Sarah replied, sounding a bit angry, both eyes squinted and her brows furrowed.

"None at all. Please enter the vehicle." James  opened the backdoor of the vehicle, whilst collecting the bag from her hand.

"I will miss you Aunt Linda." Sarah eyes teared up, hugging Linda tightly. Linda reciprocated, stroking Sarah's Long jet black hair that went down her back.

"Make sure you call dear." Linda sniffed. She disengaged the hug.

"Hurry up. They are waiting." She said , pushing Sarah into the vehicle, James closed the door.

"Bye James." Linda waved at him, as he walked towards the other side of the vehicle, opening up the the backdoor.

James let out a smile. "Bye ma'am."

Linda waved continuously at the back window, with Sarah at the other side waving back at the departing figure, the car already leaving the orphanage behind, the place she grew up in.

"Good morning ma'am. The name is Ezekiel, Ragon's family driver. You can call me Zeke for short." The young  man behind the wheels of the vintage vehicle greeted, glancing at the rearview mirror and then his gaze returned to the road.

Sarah nodded in response, then rested her head on the side window. Feeling all sort of mixed emotions swirling around in her chest.

She closed her eyes for a while, then a thought came into her mind. She immediately opened it.

"James right?" She asked looking at the Butler that sat at the other end.

James nodded in response, with an expressionless face.

"Aren't you too young to be a Butler? You look just a few years older than me."...."

.

As Linda watched the vintage vehicle drive off, she put down her waving hand, and turned to head back inside. But then the loud screeching sound  of the Tyre of a car against the asphalt road, made her stop. She turned and saw a black sport Benz car parked right in front of her. All doors of the vehicle apart from the driver's side opened up, with three men clad in suit hopping out of it.

In the blink of an eye, all three were at her front, way beyond comprehension.

"How can I help you gentlemen?" Linda managed to ask, gulping down a non present saliva.

The one in the middle moved a little bit closer to her, with his breath itching her pointed nose.

"Sorry for the disturbance. By chance is there any Sarah Ali living here?" He asked.

"Uhmm..." Linda stuttered. "Yeah. But she just left!"

"To where?" He asked, his voice sounding more like a growl. Which scared the hell out of Linda, as she swore she could see a change in color of the eyes of the man right in front of her.

"The Ragon family came to pick her up!" She muttered, pointing her index finger at the side the vintage car drove to.

"The Ragon family, ugh?" He growled once again, Making Linda jerk back in fear. "Which car?"

"A black vintage car."

"Thanks for your cooperation ma'am!" In less than a second, the sound of a broken bone was heard. Linda's body dropped to the ground, her neck bent to the other side, with her lifeless eyes wide opened.

The car doors closed up, and sped off...

.

"Aren't you too young to be a Butler? You look just a few years older than me." Sarah asked, her face stern.

"I'm not." James replied, not sparing her a glance, both his eyes fixed on the side mirror, both his ears perked up.

"Yes you are!" Sarah argued.

"Do you want to know my age?" James asked, as he looked to his left, his gaze piercing the side window. A black Benz sports car sped past them and then drifted as the car slowed down from it's momentum sideways, obstructing the vintage car, causing Zeke to step hard on the brake. Sarah hit her head against the front chair, a painful moan escaping her mouth.

"You smell them Zeke?" James smirked.

"Yes boss. Those filthy dog enemies of ours . werewolves." Zeke replied.

"Stay in the car with Zeke. Don't move!" James said with an authoritative voice, one Sarah surprisingly felt she had to obey. As she looked into his eyes before he left the vehicle, she saw a Deep Red colored one.

"By the way." James said holding the door as he stepped outside. "I'm two centuries old."

Sarah's mind suddenly got messed uo hearing that. She looked at the rearview mirror and also saw Zeke's eyes...RED.
