He blinked several times, as if not comprehending what I was saying. He uncrossed his arms but remained in his place, so I continued.

"Do you think that disappearing, not answering my calls, and ignoring me for over a month is synonymous with not losing me, with 'protecting' me? I don't even know if we're still together or not."

There was a deafening silence.

"I'm sorry," he whispered.

"Sorry? Is that all you can say?" My voice was rising more than I intended, but I no longer cared. I had so much inside me that I didn't know if it was necessary to waste my breath telling him everything. I turned to leave, but stopped and faced him again.

"I don't care if you agree to let me participate in the plan. I'm going to do it whether you like it or not. I don't want you to speak to me again. We'll only discuss the plan, and when all of this is over, I want you to really disappear. Don't come back, understood?"
