Chapter 1

Emerald....

An ordinary girl who lives a life full of shortcomings, let's call her poor. But behind her shortcomings only the beauty of her face made her superior, but that could not make her eliminate the fact that she was just a poor ordinary girl.

One day, Emerald accidentally spilled a drink on a rich woman's dress.

BRUK...

The sound of the tray falling made Emerald grimace slightly. The woman pushed her very hard.

"I'm sorry ma'am." Emerald lowered her head.

"You damn woman!" The woman in the red dress screeched.

Emerald sighed, she fell to her knees before the arrogant woman.

"Damn! This is not good for me, my dress is ruined because of her." The woman screeched angrily.

BRAK

The woman in the red dress who had just been hit by the juice seemed to kick Emerald's body again with her shoe.

"GET OUT OF MY WAY TRASH! YOU'RE MAKING MY DAY!" She shouted.

Emerald looked up, she noticed the dress that even looked fine.

Her gaze was icy cold, she made the woman in the red dress even more furious.

"You shouldn't treat me like an animal." Emerald said with a flat face.

The woman stared at Emerald's face with a sharp gaze, she hated seeing Emerald speak coldly to her.

"Don't you know me? I'm Eve, the daughter of a businessman..."

"I didn't ask." Emerald's shrug made the woman even angrier.

PLAK

Eve slapped Emerald's face, fresh blood seemed to drip at the corner of Emerald's lips.

Emerald's smile etched, she whispered.

"No matter how high you are, you are nothing more than a human. That means you are not human!" Emerald whispered.

Emerald stood back up, she removed the apron from her body and placed it on the table.

"I resign from here." Emerald looked at the manager who was just staring at the scene.

Emerald picked up her bag, she walked away from the restaurant where she had been working.

Unexpectedly, Emerald and Eve's argument was seen by a middle-aged woman who was staring at the dispute just now.

Emerald stopped at a minimalist house, she took the key and entered.

Today was very tiring for Emerald, come to think of it, maybe every day was tiring for Emerald.

The world seemed unfair to her, she lived alone in this sickening world.

Emerald's life story is too sad to tell, since birth Emerald didn't know who her parents were.

Since she was 5 years old Emerald was found in a ravine, she forgot everything. Let's say she lost her memory since her age at that time, not only memories were lost but people were also lost by her side at that time.

Since she was 5 years old, Emerald lived in a social shelter her life was too tiring making her present a cold side.

Emerald does not recognize love, she lives because the world is still running if Emerald can choose then she has long wanted death.

At the age of seventeen, Emerald was required to leave the social shelter which ended up making Emerald have to return to struggle to stay alive.

Emerald worked part-time and the rest of the time she spent reading books in the city library, sometimes Emerald used that excuse to sleep there.

She didn't go to school, but the knowledge from reading made Emerald intelligent in terms of theories of knowledge.

Now that Emerald was twenty-five years old, life seemed to be just as tiring as before.

You can see Emerald stepping towards her room, she now lives in a minimalist house that she bought from the proceeds of her work so far.

Her hand opened her drawer, she took out her passbook. Her gaze fell on the amount written there, $10,000.

Emerald's sigh could be heard.

"So tiring." She complained.

Emerald had her card with her, she had to go shopping as she was already running out of food for the next month.

****

A market became Emerald's destination, she stepped to buy enough ingredients to eat for a month.

After she finished shopping, someone stopped her.

"Miss Emerald" he said.

Emerald looked at the middle-aged woman, she frowned. Because this woman in front of her knew her name.

"Yes?" Emerald replied.

"Can we talk for a moment? I have a need with you." She said.

Emerald remained silent, until the woman extended her hand.

"I'm Liona Smith." She said introducing herself.

Emerald welcomed the woman named Liona's hand.

"Can we talk somewhere else?" Liona asked.

Emerald nodded.

The two of them ended up in a restaurant, the waiter served soft drinks to both of them.

"Before that I would like to introduce myself properly in front of Miss, I am the mother of Alaric Smith." She said.

Emerald was still silent, with her cold but graceful face.

Liona even looked amazed at the aura that radiated on the girl's face.

the girl.

"To be honest I often see you working but today there was a bit of trouble at your workplace, right? Sorry, I was also looking into you." Liona said.

Emerald nodded.

"So what did you want to talk about?" Emerald asked.

Liona smiled.

"Would you like to marry my son? I'm expecting a daughter-in-law like you, I like girls like you." Liona said honestly.

Emerald was silent for a while before she stood up and looked down.

"Thank you for the drink, but whatever you said doesn't make me want a marriage." Emerald said.

Emerald was about to leave, but Liona held her hand back.

"I'm sick, but before I die I want someone to look after my son. I think you are the only one who is suitable to be beside him." Liona said pleadingly.

Emerald stared at the link of Liona's hands, making Emerald's sighs audible.

"Did you find out about me? Marrying off your son to me will only create new things in your life, I am a poor woman with no family and you are obviously from a respected family. Are you willing to put your own family to shame? Besides I am not an educated person, there are many rich women so please don't choose me." Emerald said.

Liona shook her head.

"I don't care what people say, really I just want you to be my son's wife." Liona said again.

Emerald looked at Liona who suddenly prostrated herself before her, the middle-aged woman seemed to be humbled in order to match her.

Emerald also bowed down, she grabbed Liona's body and helped her stand up.

"Please give me some time" Emerald said.

"Okay, three days would be enough time for you to think?" Liona asked.

Emerald nodded, she looked at Liona then bowed politely.

"I take my leave." Emerald said as she walked away.

****

Three days passed...

Emerald had forgotten about her promise with Liona because basically for Emerald life was just about living.

That afternoon the knock on the door of Emerald's house made Emerald frown, so far no one has visited her house. Because in fact Emerald didn't have any friends.

Emerald opened her door, her gaze fell on Liona and a handsome man with a big tall body.

"Emerald" greeted Liona.

Emerald was only wearing her oversized clothes, her gaze was still cold looking at the two people.

"Did you forget that today is..."

"Yes, I forgot." Emerald was honest.

Liona smiled at Emerald.

"Please come in" said Emerald.

Liona nodded, she entered with the man beside her.

The two of them sat on the sofa in Emerald's very ordinary-looking living room.

The man's eyes gazed deeply at Emerald making Emerald return the gaze.

Emerald sat down after giving him two glasses of water.

"I thought what you said back then was just a joke, sorry I forgot about it." Emerald said.

Liona nodded along with her smile.

"It's okay, this is my son. His name is Alaric Smith." Liona said.

Emerald's eyes were drawn to the man, a gaze that was so sharp that it seemed as if it would skin anyone it looked at. A handsome face but more like a demon, tall stature and fair skin was how Alaric was described.

Emerald sighed, she looked at Liona again.

"If you don't see the problem of my status, then can your son accept me when he is the fiancé of another woman?" Emerald said.

Liona gasped in shock at Emerald's words.

Only a small smile that was barely even visible but Alaric could see Emerald's smile.

"I will break the engagement if you accept this marriage!" Alaric said in response to Emerald's words.

Before the conversation could continue, Liona suddenly grabbed his head.

Alaric touched the back of Liona's hand.

"Mom, go, let me finish this. I assure you, this woman will be my wife!" Alaric said with a confident look at Liona.

Liona nodded and was helped by her personal attendant to the car.

Now it was just Alaric and Emerald in that place.

"I never accept rejection! Marry me, I'll make your life!" Alaric said.

Emerald looked at Alaric with a look that she often gave to anyone.

"Besides marriage, what will I do?" Emerald asked.

Alaric stood up, he approached Emerald after which his hand played with Emerald's hair.

"I don't know you well but my mother likes you, cooperate. I swear I won't touch you as a wife!" Alaric said with his arrogant words.

Emerald's sigh was heard, she brushed off Alaric's hand roughly.

"Okay, I agree." Emerald said.

From that day on, the marriage agreement brought Emerald into an increasingly complicated circle.

She thought there would be peace, it turned out that marrying a wealthy man made her life more tiring plus there were many problems in her life but Emerald faced it calmly, for her life was indeed about problems.
