Chapter 16

I was in the car with Antonio and I was seated on the front seat and opposite him while he drove. After slight persuasion, he consented to take me with him to interrogate one of the attackers that was caught.

We were in the car in total silence. My eyes were bent scarcely while I enjoyed luminous light from the moon and stars that illuminated the sky. I didn’t know when last I took a night drive and doing it then was a wonderful feeling. The last time I did, it was when I tried running away from home but was caught. It was a terrible experience.

Breathing the night air was fantastic. I sealed my eyes and relaxed my head on the rim of the seat. Whenever I closed my eyes, Dima’s face always made me shudder back to life. Antonio was all serious and driving fast like he owned the map of the road.

I peeped at him for a second and turned back away. I wanted to appreciate him for saving my life but my ego wouldn’t let me. My lips shook but I didn’t allow myself to say a word.
