Chapter 17

Silence. That was the only thing heard while I lay on the bed beside Antonio. I goggled at the roof in the obscure darkness. I couldn’t sleep as much as I tried to. I didn’t have the guts to. After everything that happened, it was impossible for me to sleep. The love of my life was shot right in front of me. I saw a bullet puncture a man’s head in front of me. I also saw a man’s belly and intestines eaten by rats. Everything jammed together in my head and I couldn’t help but ponder on all of them.

Antonio slept calmly as though nothing happened. I looked at him sleep with his left hand placed on his chest as he faced the roof too. I sat up and kicked back on the bed frame.
