I took Kaya downstairs. I had the tree already set up. Mark and Helen were there, as were Kimi and Robert. Saka and Len decided to spend the holiday with their new mate's family. That, however, did not stop them from coming by every day to check on their friend. They had been here this afternoon to check and see if she had woken up. I would need to mind-link them and tell them what was going on. I also called Nieva, who was so distraught over the news that I could hear her crying into the phone.

I knew Kaya herself was upset. I knew she would try to shove it down, but the news of what could have happened distressed her. She most likely was pregnant now, and we would find out in a few days, but she would most likely never have more children. We would probably only ever have one. It was a hard blow. I wanted Kaya to carry my child, but I was never desperate to resort to using a fertility drug.

I knew the consequences of something like that. Now, she and I would both suffer for it
