Chapter 41

“Let’s do it,” Audrey mumbled the next day after joining Shane for breakfast. They just finished the meal and were enjoying the quiet time they shared in the dining hall when she spoke to him. Since Asher’s christening was over, she was ready to face her husband again to confront him. “The divorce,” she added.

“Audrey,” Shane muttered in disbelief. He thought she would change her mind after their ‘short’ reconciliation. “Are we really going to do this?”

“Yes,” she replied right away. There was no hesitation in the tone of her voice which gave him a pang in his chest. “You know why we should do this, Shane.”

Shane sat there in stunned silence as Audrey listed off all of the reasons why she wanted a divorce. He had never felt so blindsided in his life. He knew they had been going through a rough patch lately, but he never imagined it would come to this.
