He had called her for a reason but he became occupied and had forgotten about it. Axel picked up his phone from the table and answered it as a call came in, the person from the other line of the call said something which resulted in Axel rubbing his hands on his forehead before opening his mouth to speak "Meet me in the basement" that was all he said before he ended the call.
