Lunch Date

My mind is still in a daze after I have given my number to Cain. I don’t even remember spelling it. I only realize it was finished when he says, “Thank you.”

“Here,” he returns my phone.

“Ah, okay…” I subconsciously reach out to take it back. After that, we’re back to square one – strangers, or maybe not? But, we stay in silence with neither of us having any attention to speak. He merely props his hand under his chin while looking at the window to the view outside. There isn’t a hint of him leaving.

For some reason, I don’t feel like breaking the silence either. Instead of feeling awkward, I find it settling like a cool breeze in the middle of autumn, as though we’re stargazing. Then, from the corner of my eyes, I caught on Faith smirking my way, giggling like a four years old. I flush in embarrassment. In the end, I decided to leave. However, before I can tell him, Cain speaks up first.
