Margo blinked and cleared her head as she tried to inhale. Her chest felt like it had caved in and her stomach roiled with nausea. She gripped Kane’s arm as if it was her very life line. Her heart beat a frantic rhythm in her chest as she dragged in a painful breath. 

“He… He went on the run?” She whispered, looking towards Maribell who wore the same pale expression on her face. 

“I don’t have a way to keep tabs on him anymore.” Dex whispered with shame. 

His heart trembled with sadness and shame as he felt as if he had let them both down.
