Arax stared at me for a second before he nodded, his head making these quick bobbing movements. I bared my teeth at him and he shrunk back into the chair.

"Vera, love, you are scaring him. He is a dumb idiot, and he has seen the error of his ways," Mateo said as he sighed. "Don't make her mad anymore, Arax."

Arax nodded quickly.

"But he almost killed me. He needs to stop being a dumb idiot."
