33. A regrettable Encounter

EMILY POV

"What do you mean? I haven't been keeping any secrets from you," I said. My hands were jittery but I placed one over the other to calm my nerves.

"What case do you have with the police? The police officer knew you and even told me to inform you that they would keep working on 'your' case till the truth is revealed," he said, laying emphasis on the 'your' part.

I instantly knew he was referring to Mr. Davis, the police officer who was always willing to come to my rescue and investigate Max's case.

"Oh! Mr. Davis is just a man who's good at his job. He helped me with my father's case," I lied and heaved a sigh of relief.

He glared at me for a few seconds then left the room. I quickly scanned through the entire place but I could not find the test results. My stomach rumbled as I imagined Leo reading the paper.
