Chapter 34: Something unexpected

I slowly woke to the distant rumble of voices; a low murmur that slowly penetrated the veil of sleep. As my consciousness crept back, so did the urgency in the voices that I heard, their tones sharpening into the distinct clash of disagreements.

I shifted, the warmth of the bed cocooning me, but the tension in the air drew me from the embrace of slumber. I could hear Xavier’s voice and another unfamiliar voice speaking, and whatever the disagreement that they were having, it seemed to revolve around me.

“I need you to check her now. She isn’t fine”

“Alpha, with all due respect, can we at least let her wake up before conducting the test on her? She’s already stirring. Maybe she can say if it was something she ate that made her sick”
