Twenty- One

“Shit,” I mumble as I stare at the little stick in my hand. The pink plus sign stares back at me, almost tauntingly. “Maybe it’s a false positive,” I say to myself as I look at the five other pregnancy tests on the counter. I groan as I read them- all positive.

A knock comes from the bathroom door, “you ok in there?”

“Yeah!” I answer. “Just.. uh… girl things!”

“Oh,” James says quickly. “If you need anything I can run to the store,” he offers.

“Not unless they sell abortion over the counter,” I grumble.

“What was that?” He asks loudly. “I didn’t hear you.”

“I said not unless they have real Tylenol here,” I answer quickly.

“I’ll go check,” James says. “I’ll see if they have that chocolate you like too.”

“Thank you,” I tell him as I sink to the floor.
