The question

Harriet stared at her for some minutes and the next second, she broke down in tears. Lily moved closer to her.

“Stop... Why are you crying,” She pulled out her hand to touch Harriet but stopped mid-air. She didn't know how Harriet would react to her touching her.

“Please, stop sobbing.” She added. However, Harriet didn't stop. She continued to cry.

“What did I say?” Lily asked frantically and eventually touched Harriet and petted her while wondering what she had said that was wrong.

Harriet raised her head, tears on her cheeks and her eyes red.

“I am sorry for the way I treated you. I didn't know you were going through so many things. Mom left you at such a young age. She had me and had been with us since then. You were alone, you had to go through life alone. I am sorry.” She sobbed again.

Lily sighed, relieved. She thought that she had said something wrong to Harriet. She smiled and then ran her hand into Harriet’s hair.

“It is fine,” she said.
