My heartbeat drummed in my ears. Thump. Thumb. Thumb. Darkness surrounded me but my body felt light. I drifted through the dark space. It was soothing. A light appeared and swallowed me.

I emerged into a room. The fancy old-fashioned pieces and types of furniture gave it a castle room vibe. A master bedroom that was big enough to be a studio apartment. Even I had to admit it looked better than my room.

Little Miss Mermaid appeared next to me. Her face was puffy like she was crying. I heard everything that happened with her and Mitch. He was the notorious Prince. It was hard to believe how he kept his true identity from me. We were friends and enemies for years. He was my go-to guy for everything. I couldn't tell if he knew who I was or not. It was as if everyone in my life held who they were from me.

Sure, I wouldn't have been too happy to be surrounded by merfolks, but it would have been nice to not be alone. It would have made everything better.
