Chapter 21: The Full Moon

Salem

I wish I hadn't taken the things Alaric had bought for me. I should have listened to Madison. She knew how the world of the wolves operated, and I didn't. I was new to everything around me.

"Rain, rain," I heard Madison calling from downstairs.

I quickly hid the balloon and the lollipop in the closet. Before I went to open the door and ran downstairs, I peered at the side of the window to see if Alaric was still watching me. My body jumped upon hearing Madison spin the doorknob to come in.

"Rain, did you lock yourself in?" she asked worriedly.

I hurriedly opened the door.

Madison smiled at me.

"Dinner is ready," she said.

I nodded and led the way, heading downstairs.

I sat around the table and began to have my meal—mashed potatoes, pork, and some strange greens she said were string beans. I hated them; I shoved them aside at the edge of my plate, and so did the mashed potatoes; I didn't fancy them either. All I wanted was the pork dripping with gravy. I put down the fork
