This morning Jake wasn’t holding me when I woke up. He had his back turned towards me, there were only a couple of inches between us, but we didn’t touch. I laid for a couple of minutes, just thinking while I bent and stretched my right knee under the covers to get the rigidness to disappear.

This was the worst part of being a vampire hunter. Searching for leads in all the places you could think of, just to hope you luckily encountered something unusual. It was like a needle in a haystack. I hated it, but when you first found the lead it was completely different, and that compensated a lot. There was no telling of how long it could take to find something suspicious. Why didn’t vampires had to eat more often? They would be easier to trace if they ate a lot more, but it was a horrible thought of mine. How could I wish they would eat more, kill more? Just to make my job easier?
