"Say the words." The Alpha screamed in a growing rage and pushed Nueva's face against the cold misty layers.
A bloodthirsty roar sounded from within, frightening enough to terrify the man as Nueva could feel his body stiffen.
A breeze winnowed through the clearing, rustling the leaves in the fiery red sugar maples. And there it was again, that familiar scent disguised just enough for her not to figure out who or where it came from.
The Alpha snapped his fingers, and two of the shifted soldiers disappeared for a moment before returning, dragging Mira and her mum by their scruffs. They had been gagged, and their arms were tied firmly to their backs.
"Do as you are told, or they die." He growled threateningly.

Back outside, the tranquil winter landscape unveiled a serene weather change that lulled them into a false sense of security. Bright-white hills glisten over the fields basking in creamy yellow sunlight. The temperature was crisp but comfortable.
