Chapter 53:
Sanaya’s P.O.V:
Black.
That was all I saw no matter where I turned; no matter how many times I blinked my eyes. It was as if I had been shoved into a room that had all the lights switched off. Except, this wasn’t a closed room. It was open space, open enough that I could feel an icy wind blowing against my skin. It’s said that when you lose one of your senses, all the others become heightened, but they couldn’t be more wrong.
Other than the chill in the air, all I could feel was panic. Where was I? Why couldn’t I see? Was this really Shadowland? What was Shadowland?
The great thing about Shadowland is that no one, mortal or immortal, has ever come out of it, alive or dead.
Asmara’s voice rang in my ears and with it came a sense of hopelessness like I’ve never felt before. I felt tears stream down my cheeks as I swung my hands around wil
Chapter 54:Sanaya’s P.O.V:Just when the red orbs had moved dangerously close to me, blocking my exit from all directions, something fell in front of me that had the ground rumble so hard that it knocked me off my feet. I fell to the ground, thankful for the material of the gown that took most of the hit, but my hands came in contact with the rocks and they instantly sliced through my skin, drawing blood. I bit my tongue to keep from crying out loud. It didn’t matter how much pain I was in, I couldn’t give away my location to the newest member who was far too close for comfort. But before I could back away from my attacker, something grabbed a hold of my hand and hauled me to my feet. Strangely, they felt like hands; normal human hands that didn’t burn my skin on contact or draw blood.I looked up at the figure in front of me; and for a second I was struck by the beauty of the eyes that stared back at me
Chapter 55:Sanaya’s P.O.VI woke up with a start; gasping in huge gulps of air like I’d been starving for days.“Hey, it okay! Sanaya.” Lancelin’s voice came from somewhere next to me and I reached my hands out towards him instinctively.A pair of strong arms wrapped around my body, pulling me taunt against a hard muscular chest. “Shhh…it’s okay. You’re safe now. You’re home.”I hadn’t realized I was struggling against him until Lance had to hold me to him even harder, trying to calm me down.“It’s alright. I’m here now. I’ll never leave you again, I promise.” Lance pressed me to his chest even harder and I began to calm down slowly. It took a while for my eyes to the room and I realized that this was no longer the lightless world of Shadowland but Lancelin’s room in Castle Estella. Lance was
Chapter 56:Lancelin’s P.O.VThe tunnels under Castel Estella seemed to last forever. The deeper we went the colder it got. It was a good thing immortals didn’t feel cold or heat the same as humans did. Sanaya would no longer be the same either. She was one of us now. Those icy fingers gripped my chest again as I thought of Sanaya. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that she was no longer a human; that she would now have to watch her loved ones die before her own eyes as she stayed ageless. A sculpture set in stone. Sanaya hadn’t taken the news lightly. But I couldn’t come to regret my decision. Everything I did was to save her. And I would do it a thousand times over if it meant that she would remain by my side for the rest of eternity. I could only hope that by turning her, I didn’t poison her heart against me forever. I couldn’t see a future without Sanaya.
Chapter 57:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Your Highness,” I sat up in bed after much difficulty.“Ah, it’s alright, my child.” King Nathaniel spoke cheerfully. “Stay in bed, you’re injured.”I listened to him and leaned back against the headboard, my strength wasn’t back to full potential yet and my body was aching, but I felt a lot better than I did a few moments ago. The only problem remained the thirst. I knew I had to drink blood but I was trying to avoid the deed for as long as I could.“I’m sorry for not being more presentable, Your Highness.” I told him sincerely. “I wish we could meet under favorable circumstances.”“Oh, what nonsense!” The king waved it off and sat on the edge of my bed. “I should be the one saying sorry for not visiting you earlier. How are you feeling?”“I’m good,
Chapter 58:Lancelin’s P.O.V“Mauve?” Miaka asked surprised as we all rushed out of the dungeons. “But she’s dead.”“Yes and she’s left behind a disciple.” I spoke through gritted teeth as betrayal made my blood boil. “Martin.”“How’s that possible? Martin is without any magean powers.” Acelin said as he rushed to keep up with my strides. “He’s no better than a human.”“Have you heard of dark mages?” I asked them both, pausing for just an instant so I could look at their faces and instantly, Miaka’s eyes widened. “You have, haven’t you? Tell me everything you know.”Miaka might only be sixteen in human years but she had the mind of a genius. She was also very curious and was always looking for clues and details of every race, every species that existed on Earth and learnin
Chapter 59:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Martin?” The King asked with a frown, his hands still holding me down on the bed.“I’m trying but nothing seems to work on her.” Martin looked at me confused before chanting another spell…but once again, nothing happened.“What the hell are you doing, you useless bruja!” Nathaniel yelled at Martin and the next instant, he was being slammed against the wall beside the bed, allowing me to untangle myself from the bed sheets and scurry away. When I noticed that Martin and Nathaniel were focused on each other, I got off the bed and rolled under it, away from their sight. I needed to plan my escape but I had to get away from their line of vision first.“Martin!” Nathaniel spoke a warning, but Martin didn’t loosen his hold. I didn’t know what happened next but very calmly, Nathaniel told Martin to loosen hi
Chapter 60:Sanaya’s P.O.VEvery Incubus in the Kingdom mourned the loss of the former King. They were spared the gory details about his advent into darkness and how he wanted to manipulate Mages and other creatures of Shadowland to gain control over other dimensions. It was a unanimous decision by the Queen mother, Lance and Acelin. The people will remember Nathaniel Eustein as a just King who died to save his son from a corrupt mage. He would become a hero and Lancelin could rule proudly as a martyr’s son rather than the son of a traitor. Everything had been calculated carefully to secure Lancelin’s rule and I was in agreement with it no matter how much it hurt to stand in the front line of the grand funeral service that had been arranged for the King.“Sometimes, it’s the best option to grin and bear than to face a revolt. I’d survived the loss of my mate…I cannot bear to surv
Chapter 61:Sanaya’s P.O.VThe entire terrace was lit up like a Christmas tree. Fairy lights hung from the railing of the terrace and the roses were bordered with red fairy lights to bring them to life. Even the gazebo was lit up and there were red velvet drapes all around them to give us privacy. But the biggest surprise was the table set in the middle of the terrace, right in front of the lotus shaped fountain. It has several food items, wine and even champagne and what appeared to be a red velvet cake, all surrounded by fresh plucked roses.“Happy Birthday.” Lance whispered into my ears as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.“Oh my God…” I whispered in surprise. “It’s November 3rd already? How could I have forgotten my own birthday?”“I don’t blame you.” Lance said, still whispering so as not to ruin the serenity of
