Chapter 42

Athena's POV

"Let's find out what's going on with the river," I said as I looked down at the river running through the valley. If you listened closely, you could just barely hear the sound of the river water over the low whistling of the northern air.

As I listened to the sound of water, everything seemed to go quiet all at once. This made me a little confused, but when I looked over my shoulder, I saw my wolves looking at me with a mix of fear and confusion on their faces.

"What's going on?" I wanted to know. A few minutes ago, they were all talking, but now everyone was quiet.

"Are we headed for the river?" One wolf was brave enough to ask.

I told him, "Of course we are," and there was another moment of silence.

"But we were told not to go there,"

"You've been working for me for more than a couple of weeks. You should have figured out by now that I don't really care about the Emperor "I let them know. Some of them swallowed, and some of them nervously nodded at me.
